1. What is the US Cup System?
The US Cup design features a "cup" on the mast base and a corresponding "pin" on the extension. This is the opposite of the Euro Pin system.
The Connection: The mast base has a thick, hollowed-out cylinder (the cup).
The Locking Mechanism: You slide the extension pin into the cup, and it locks in place with a spring-loaded side button or a collar.
2. Features of the Streamlined US Cup Base
Streamlined is one of the few brands that still perfects this "American-style" connection, which is highly popular in the US and among "old school" wave sailors for its extreme durability.
3. Why choose the US Cup version?
Sand Resistance: The US Cup system is generally more tolerant of sand than the Euro Pin. If sand gets into the cup, it’s easier to clear out, and the mechanism is less likely to jam.
Mechanical Strength: Because the "male" part (the pin) is on the extension and is usually quite thick, it offers massive shear strength, which is ideal for heavy landings in wave sailing.
Compatibility: If you already own Streamlined Redline extensions or older Chinook extensions, they likely use this US Cup standard.
4. Pros & Cons vs. Euro Pin
Pros: Ultra-secure connection; very difficult to break; easy to operate even with cold hands or thick gloves.
Cons: Not the "industry standard" in Europe (where Euro Pin dominates); slightly more "clunky" to look at than the sleek Euro Pin.
