The Dynafiber SDM Alu Inox Extension is the heavy-duty, standard-diameter (SDM) sibling to the RDM version. In the 2025/2026 range, it is positioned as the go-to extension for Freeride, Freerace, and Slalom sailors who use larger sails and standard-diameter masts.
While RDM gear focuses on flexibility and maneuvers, this SDM version focuses on rigidity and handling the extreme downhaul loads required by powerful cambered sails.
Like the RDM version, the "Inox" branding signifies that the load-bearing components are made of high-grade Stainless Steel:
Solid Stainless Base: The entire pulley and cleat block is cast from stainless steel. Under the massive tension of a 7.5m+ race sail, plastic bases can compress or deform; the Inox base stays perfectly rigid.
Stainless Steel Pulleys: It features two large-diameter rollers that are wider than those on the RDM version to better accommodate the wider downhaul blocks found on SDM sails.
Steel Push-Button: The release button is metal, ensuring it won't snap or jam even after years of exposure to salt and sand.
Diameter: 48.5 mm (Standard Diameter Mast).
Material: T8 Aircraft-grade Aluminum. T8 is a harder temper than standard T6, providing the stiffness needed to prevent the extension from bowing when you're fully powered up.
Wall Thickness: Dynafiber uses a thicker wall profile for the SDM series to ensure it can support the higher center of gravity and leverage of longer masts.
| Feature | Details |
| Connection | Euro Pin (Universal Pin) - compatible with all standard bases. |
| Available Lengths | 32 cm and 48 cm. |
| Adjustment | 2.5 cm increments with a heavy-duty collar and tethered pin. |
| Min. Extension | Approx. 2 cm to 5 cm (very low profile). |
| Rope | Typically pre-threaded with Marlow Formuline or high-tension Dyneema. |
| Weight | Approx. 670g (32cm) to 810g (48cm). |
Power Transfer: If you are using a cambered sail, the SDM diameter provides a much more stable "spine" for the rig. This extension ensures that stability starts at the very bottom.
Longevity: It is built for "Slalom tension." If you’ve ever broken a plastic extension or bent a cheap aluminum one while downhauling a race sail, this is the solution.
Cost-Effective Performance: It provides almost the same rigidity as a Carbon SDM extension but at a price point that is much easier on the wallet.
