Description

The Dynafiber Razer Slalom Carbon 28mm is the dedicated performance boom for freerace and slalom enthusiasts. While the Shaka series focuses on wave and maneuverability, the Razer is engineered for top-end speed, stability, and maximum power transfer.

In the 2025 lineup, the 28mm version is the "sweet spot" for sailors who want the stiffness of a race boom without the massive 30mm+ grip of old-school slalom gear.

1. High-Tension Slalom Design

Everything about the Razer is beefed up to handle the massive downhaul and outhaul tensions of cambered race sails:

  • Pre-Preg Carbon Monocoque: A 100% high-modulus carbon build. The "Razer" profile is specifically shaped to prevent the boom arms from "opening" (flexing outward) when you are fully powered up on a reach.
  • 28mm Constant Diameter: This is slightly thicker than the wave booms (25/27mm) to provide the extra wall thickness needed for extreme rigidity, yet it remains slim enough to prevent forearm fatigue during long slalom heats.

2. Specialized Race Features

Feature Details
Wide Tail (Square) The tail is significantly wider than a wave boom. This allows the sail to "breathe" and prevents the leech from hitting the boom arm when the sail is deeply bagged.
Integrated Pulleys The tail piece features triple stainless steel pulleys designed for an adjustable outhaul system, allowing you to tune your sail tension while on the fly.
Performance Head A heavy-duty, oversized articulated head that ensures a massive contact area with the mast, minimizing vertical movement.
Tapered Arms Some versions feature a slight taper from a thicker front section to a 28mm grip area to maximize stiffness-to-weight.

3. Size and Weight (Standard Specs)

  • 170–230 cm: The most popular size for 6.0m to 8.5m sails.
  • Weight: Approx. 2.8kg to 3.1kg depending on size—remarkably light for a full-race slalom boom.

4. Why choose the Razer over the Shaka?

  1. Tail Width: If you use cambered sails (like a Severne Mach, Duotone Warp, or NeilPryde V8), a Shaka tail is too narrow. The Razer’s wide tail is mandatory to keep the sail from rubbing.
  2. Outhaul Tuning: The Razer is built to be used with an outhaul kit. If you enjoy pulling your outhaul tight for upwind and letting it out for downwind, this is the boom for you.
  3. Stiffness: The Razer is noticeably stiffer than the Shaka to handle the "pumping" forces required to get a heavy slalom board on the plane.

2025 Updates

The 2025 Razer features an ultra-durable textured EVA grip that is specifically designed to handle the high-pressure grip of a slalom stance. It also uses a double-pin stainless locking system with a new ergonomic lever that is easier to operate with cold or wet hands.
