Description

The Dynafiber Shaka Carbon 27mm is the "all-rounder" of the Shaka carbon range. While the "Slim 25" is for those who want the thinnest grip possible, the 27mm version is often considered the perfect "Goldilocks" diameter—stiff enough for heavy power-freeriding but slim enough for high-performance wave sailing.

Here is the technical breakdown of the Shaka Carbon 27mm:

1. Construction & Stiffness

  • 100% Pre-preg Carbon: Unlike "carbon-composite" or "hybrid" booms, the Shaka uses high-modulus pre-preg carbon. This results in a boom that doesn't "soften" over years of use.
  • Monocoque Frame: The arms and the front section are molded as one continuous piece. This creates a much more rigid structure than booms with bolted-on heads.
  • 27mm Grip: This is the industry standard for "Slim" booms. It provides more surface area for your palms than the 25mm, which some riders prefer for "pumping" the sail onto a plane or for high-load jumps.

2. Key 2025 Features

Feature Details
Grip Diameter 27mm (uniform diameter).
Shape Modern C-Shape (allows for a more natural wrist angle).
Adjustment Double-Pin Stainless Steel Clips for a rock-solid tail lock.
Boom Head High-tension lever head with Integrated RDM/SDM Shim.
Tail Piece Slim, stiff carbon tail with rubber bumper protection.

3. Why choose the 27mm over the 25mm?

  • Absolute Rigidity: While both are stiff, the 27mm tube has a slightly larger cross-section, which mathematically increases resistance to bending. If you are a heavier rider (over 85-90kg) or sail in overpowered conditions, the 27mm will feel slightly more "solid."
  • Large Hands: If you have large hands, a 25mm boom can sometimes feel like a "pencil," leading to hand cramps. The 27mm fills the hand better for most adult male sailors.
  • Versatility: The 27mm is more comfortable if you switch between wave sails and larger freeride sails (up to 7.0m or 7.5m).

4. Durability & Finishing

  • EVA Grip: Dynafiber uses a high-density EVA grip that is sanded for extra traction. It is designed to be "sticky" without being abrasive to your skin.
  • Tail Protection: The carbon tail is reinforced at the end to prevent the carbon from fraying if you rest the boom on the ground during rigging.
  • Outhaul System: Uses a clean Loop-and-Go system at the tail for fast rigging without complex pulley threading.
