1. Optimized for Light Wind Flight

The Takeoff is all about low-end power.

  • Early Planning: Its profile is designed to generate maximum lift at low speeds. This allows you to get the board moving and the foil engaged even in light breezes (8–12 knots).

  • Deep Draft: The sail has a pre-set belly (cambered-like feel without the weight of cams) that provides the "grunt" needed to pump the board onto the foil.

2. Stability and Vertical Lift

Unlike a standard freeride sail that might pull you forward, the Takeoff is designed to stay vertical.

  • Draft Forward Positioning: The center of effort is locked forward and slightly higher. This helps maintain the balance of the foil, preventing the nose of the board from dipping or breaching unexpectedly.

  • Control in Flight: Once you are in the air, the sail remains extremely stable, allowing you to focus on your foot pressure and foil height rather than fighting a shifting sail profile.

3. Lightweight Construction

Weight is the enemy of foiling.

  • Reduced Batten Weight: By optimizing the batten layout, Sideon has kept the sail light. This makes it much easier to pump the sail to generate the initial speed required for flight.

  • Easy Handling: The lightweight feel makes transitions (uphauling and jibing) much less tiring, which is vital when you are learning the specific balance of foiling.

4. Short Boom & Compact Outline

  • High Aspect Ratio: The sail is relatively tall and narrow. This compact "foot" (bottom of the sail) prevents the sail from hitting the water or the board during the extreme tilt angles often found in foiling.

  • Maneuverability: The shorter boom length makes the sail feel smaller than it actually is, giving you a very "tossable" feel during maneuvers.
